Brief Company History
Wines of the World Limited (formerly Reality Trading Ltd) began operations in 1992 nder the entrepreneurial stewardship of the two shareholders Mr. Humphrey Kariuki and Mr. Stuart Herd. The company is licensed as an importer, wholesaler and retailer of wines under the Companies Act Cap. 486 of the laws of Kenya.
In the early years Wines of the World’s head office was located in Mombasa and the major customers were largely the hospitality sector targeting the tourist clientele at the Coast. Until 1995 the sales in Nairobi were handled by an agent , however as the potential of the Wine market in both Nairobi & the environs became apparent, the Company considered it prudent to shift its base to Nairobi to enable it focus and tap into this growing market. The Company still maintains a fully fledged operation at the Coast which still commands approximately 30% of the Wine Market in Kenya.
Products Range
Initially the local market interest was mainly for wines from South African, this was so particularly after the market opened up after the end of the apartheid regimes. The company was able to secure exclusive agency agreements fairly early with Eikendal Vineyards (Pty) Ltd and Simonsvlei Vineyards (Pty) Ltd. Subsequently further exclusivity agreements have been secured with Stellenbosch Vineyards and Douglas Green Bellingham. Wines of the World imports its South African range of wines through its wholly owned subsidiary Vineyards (Pty) Ltd based in Cape Town. As the market has developed and matured, so too has the demand for wines from the other major wine regions of the world . This has resulted in us building relationships with some of the biggest exporters and/or producers of wines & spirits in the world, e.g. Bacardi Comp ltd. Listed below are some our range of products and sources. We bank on the experience of the world’s best wine & spirits producers giving us access to the best quality wines & spirits which in turn enables us to supply customers with the very best wines/spirits available in the world.
